We supply kiln-dried Scottish birch — a hardwood that lights fast, burns bright and leaves very little ash. Every log is air-dried for a full year at our farm near Tain and tested to under 15% moisture, well below the UK Ready to Burn threshold.

Local sourcing keeps haulage low and prices sensible. You get premium firewood, we keep it simple, and the Highland woodland stays healthy.

Wet wood wastes most of its energy boiling off moisture. Under-20% firewood puts more heat into the room, produces less smoke and lays down far less creosote in the flue. Kiln-dried hardwood is also easier to light and burns more consistently batch to batch.

Cover the top, leave the sides open. Stack off the ground on pallets or gravel, bark-side up, and rotate stock so the oldest logs burn first. A south or west facing wall gets the most sun and wind — ideal in Ross-shire.

Oak and ash give the longest, steadiest burns. Beech is a close second. Birch lights faster, produces a hotter, brighter flame and is the best all-round choice for Highland homes — especially when kiln-dried under 15%.

Ask five questions before you order: What species is it? What is the moisture percentage? Is it Ready to Burn certified? How is it measured (a loose cubic metre shrinks when stacked)? And how is it delivered?

Timber is selected from sustainably managed Scottish woodlands, cut and split to burn-ready size at our farm, then air-dried for a full year. Every batch is moisture-tested before bagging. On delivery day, we drop the bag as close to your log store as we can safely reach.

Sweep the chimney at least once a year. Fit a working CO alarm within 1–3 metres of the appliance. Keep flammable items a metre from the hearth. Never overload the firebox — a well-loaded stove burns hotter and cleaner than a crammed one.

Order in late August through October. Prices are stable, delivery slots are open, and you can stack for a few weeks before the first cold snap. Waiting until January means competing with everyone else who left it late.
